City of Toronto & Value Village

Waste Reduction Week Pop-up Clothing Swap at Nathan Phillips Square. In Partnership with City of Toronto and Value Village. A spin-off resource, the Swap It Toolkit was developed as an outcome of the event to provide resources and information for individuals, schools, and community groups to plan their own swap event. 

SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT & CREATIVES

TELUS

Promoted TELUS’ device collection drives taking place throughout the season on social media.

The Beer Store

Educated Ontarians about the benefits of deposit-return programs and how they can participate in the circular economy through the Beer Store’s deposit return program. 

CSA Group

Developed a Q&A article explaining the role standards play in Canada’s transition to a circular economy. Resource developed in collaboration with CSA Group for Circular Economy Month 2023. 

Hellmann’s

Collaborated with Hellmann’s on a series of posts promoting its food waste reduction initiatives for Waste Reduction Week in Canada 2021.

A&W Canada

Developed a Champion Profile with 2017 program partner A&W Canada telling the story of how the restaurant chain has been taking steps to reduce its packaging since 1956.

Celebrating Champions & Innovators

Created a video for Waste Reduction Week 2017 highlighting the circular efforts and commitments of the program’s partners.

The Beer Store

In October 2019, Circular Innovation Council and The Beer Store visited a bottling facility to highlight and demonstrate the benefits of the circular economy as part of a Waste Reduction Week in Canada segment on CTV News. 


EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND CONTESTS

LEGO

LEGO Replay for Schools Challenge piloted in 2022 in partnership with LEGO Group. Elementary schools across Canada were challenged to use LEGO bricks or other materials to creatively illustrate their understanding of environmental protection, waste reduction, and circular economy. At the end of the challenge, students and schools who are finished with their LEGO bricks can donate them through LEGO Replay.

Walmart Canada

Circular Innovation Council, in partnership with Walmart Canada and other implementation partners, delivered the Plastic Bag Grab Challenge, an environmental awareness program to engage schools and students on the 3Rs hierarchy. From 2016 – 2020 more than 750,000 students from across Canada took action to reduce plastic waste in their school communities while collecting more than 65 metric tonnes of single-use plastic bags for recycling. 

An educational video was created for the Plastic Bag Grab Challenge teaching students about the lifecycle of a plastic bag.

Value Village#IGiveAShirt Challenge

In the spirit of promoting rewear and reuse, we partnered with Value Village® to challenge Ontario and British Columbia secondary schools to organize a week-long in-school clothing collection drive for used clothing (textiles) for Waste Reduction Week 2017 and 2018. Over 58,000 students participated from 70 schools, collecting over 35,000 pounds of textiles for reuse.

Circular Economy Month ads displayed in Cineplex app and on lobby screens in locations across the country.
